Starting point

Television operations for an online medium

Televize Seznam started as the television extension of a major online media brand. From day one, however, it needed to operate like a standard linear channel, with an exact broadcast schedule, advertising blocks, self-promo, ingest, playout, exports and reporting.

The task was to transform an online way of working into a television workflow and complement it with reliable broadcast technology, servers, a technology matrix, technical diagrams and operational documentation.

Assignment

From planning to playout

The goal was to deliver a complete television operation project, not just install standalone software. The solution had to connect content preparation, schedule planning, advertising, self-promo, ingest, playout servers and the playout operation itself.

  • planning of programme, advertising and self-promo blocks,
  • asset management and media file handling,
  • ingest and file exchange between systems,
  • playout servers, technology matrix and playout integration,
  • technical diagrams, operational matrices and project documentation,
  • exports for advertising, finance reporting and operator training.
SAT Plus solution

Broadcast Selector a SmartCASTER

Broadcast Selector was deployed for schedule planning. It was followed by SmartCASTER for playout and automation. The schedule therefore became a live source of data for real playout, not just an administrative document.

The delivery also included the television technology itself: playout servers, a technology matrix, signal and data interconnections, technical diagrams and project documentation for handover and ongoing operations.

Benefits

One workflow for programming, advertising and technology

The delivery connected schedule planning, commercial processes, media files and playout into one operating model.

  • unified planning for programming, advertising and self-promo,
  • automated playlist preparation for playout,
  • integration between the planning system and playout servers,
  • managed ingest and media file exchange,
  • exports for the advertising department and finance reporting,
  • technical documentation, operational matrices and team training.
Development and result

From a morning show to a full-format TV channel

The project evolved gradually together with the channel itself. As content grew, so did the demands on planning, asset management, reruns, advertising, self-promo, ingest, playout servers, the technology matrix and financial reporting.

The result was an integrated technology backbone for a full-format channel: Broadcast Selector, SmartCASTER, playout servers, routing, technical diagrams, project documentation and an operational workflow from content preparation to playout.
