Starting point

A new sports TV channel built from scratch

Sporty TV began broadcasting on March 1, 2024 as a new sports channel. A specific feature of the project was that the private investor was not just building another playout workflow, but a complete television operation from the ground up.

The assignment included a television studio, control room facilities, live commentary for broadcasts, reception of signals from contracted partners, contribution and distribution paths, work planning, ingest automation, playout, archive and web continuity.

Assignment

Build both the technology and the operating model

The project was not just a software implementation. We addressed the physical construction of the television studio, integration with SAT Plus facilities, vision and audio control, commentary positions and operational procedures for day-to-day sports broadcasting.

  • construction and integration of a television studio for four-camera production,
  • use of commentary booths, vision control and audio control,
  • creation of distribution and contribution paths from transmission sites,
  • reception of signals from satellites and contracted sports partners,
  • staffing delivery and operational support for regular production,
  • workflow from planning through ingest to playout, archive and web.
SAT Plus solution

Studio, control room, servers and software in one workflow

The delivery combined broadcast technology, proprietary software and real television operations. Broadcast Selector was used for scheduling, SmartCASTER for playout, Production Toolkit for assigning and managing production work, and a separate archive management system.

Automation handled ingest intake, distribution of materials to playout servers, archive storage and linkage to the website. The goal was for every broadcast, commentary, studio insert and recording to have a clear place in the operational chain.

Live production

Day-to-day sports operations

Sporty TV is built on live broadcasts and regular sports production. That is why it was important to address not only playout itself, but also planning of human resources, commentators, technical staff, studio production and related production tasks.

  • live commentary for broadcasts from various sports sources,
  • technical support for commentary booths, vision and audio,
  • studio production with up to four cameras,
  • management of production tasks through Production Toolkit,
  • planning continuity into ingest, playout, archive and web,
  • staffing and operator training.
Program lineup

Competitions and shows on Sporty TV

Sporty TV featured a varied mix of Czech and international competitions, live broadcasts, highlights and sports magazines. This diversity of programming created demands on scheduling, ingest, commentary, archiving and day-to-day transmission.

Result

A complete TV operation including technology, people and process

The result was not just a system for scheduling or playout, but a fully built sports television operation. SAT Plus handled the technology, studio, control room, servers, contribution, distribution, ingest, archive, web continuity, production system and operations team.

The Sporty TV project shows that when building a new television channel, the entire chain must be solved at once: where the signal comes from, who comments on it, where the studio is produced, how content is scheduled, how it gets on air, how it is archived and how production and the web continue working with it.
